ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES

The Canadian Brush Manufacturers Association (formerly known as the CBBMMA or Canadian Brush, Broom and Mop Manufacturers Association) represents its members in activities which are more effectively handled, on behalf of the individual members, on a collective basis. These activities can vary from time to time, and new activities are added when the need arises. Some recent activities on behalf of members include:

  • Representations to federal government departments regarding anti-dumping regulation, "Marking" regulation, taxation, etc.
  • Compilation, publication and distribution of statistics related to the industry; co-operating with and advising Statistics Canada on the subject
  • Writing and updating specifications for brushes, brooms, mops and paint rollers in co-operation with government departments
  • Organization of annual convention and business meetings held in June of each year. The convention provides an opportunity for an annual appraisal of matters pertaining to the brush, broom, mop and paint roller industry and a valuable forum for an exchange of views between manufacturers, government and suppliers. A number of social events are also highlights of the occasion.

Membership is broken into product divisions which meet on their own to discuss common interests. They are currently as follows:

  • Household, Maintenance and Sanitary Division
  • Industrial Brush Division
  • Personal Brush Division
  • Paint Applicator Division
  • Supplier Member Division

A Name Change for the Association

On June 21, 1997 at the Annual General Meeting, the association changed the name from the Canadian Brush, Broom and Mop Manufacturers Association (CBBMMA) to the Canadian Brush Manufacturers Association (CBMA). The objectives and programs of the association remain the same. There are no changes regarding the association's membership, and the membership criteria remains unchanged.

It was decided that, in order to move with the times, the change of name was necessary to better reflect the industry, as we move into the next century. At the same time it was decided to change the visual look of the Association with a new logo, and the old logo that had been in use for over 25 years, has now been retired, as of September, 1998
